Semi-scale BR: Strictly Bulleid*

*Apologies to the Swanage Railway whose second, similarly named, steam gala will be 7-9 June. The first, in 2017, featured five Light Pacifics and was fab. So, in solidarity, here’s video of three of my celebratory efforts. Part archive re-edit, part new stuff.

This is the bright and cheerful, colour version. There will also shortly be a dour, miserable ‘authentic 1950s black and white’ version (posted in ‘Railways & Layouts’ > ‘Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan’) — the correct way to remember BR steam I've read…

Great video and great models, nicely embedded in a mature garden. :D

Thank you. ‘…mature garden’. Hmmm… Kind of you to describe it that way!

Always love these videos of the Semi scale BR.

Anyone who wants to build a garden line but whose partner is not keen should show her/him these videos which show how a garden railway
can fit into the garden and enhance the enjoyment of the outdoor space.

Love the video. I especially like the two steamers very much. :thumbright:

STOP PRESS The Swanage Railway confirm that their ‘Strictly Bulleid 2’ event, 7-9 June, will feature EIGHT Bulleid Pacifics in steam! Wow!

It's going to be impressive, and I will be keeping an eye via the webcams, but I'm not sure I "get it"... It feels like about six too many, and I guess I'd rather see more variety - that lovely T3, for example. Shame they can't have your Leader and tank engine variants!

It takes all sorts though. I spent Saturday cheerfully trundling about the Gloucestershire countryside mostly behind GWR locos, and there's an awful lot of people would say they all look the same... The new Grange was just lovely... And I do love the Saint too - although, I'll confess, "P&O" added a nice bit of variety!

OMG! — Help — I need to sit down…

As an unreconstructed Southern Region bore, I’m beside myself with excitement. And I would like to think that by now the chaps at Swanage have developed a pretty shrewd notion of what works for them. The lovely T3 (and their other serviceable locomotives) can be seen on daily services for much of the year, of course. They do hold other galas and events too.

Goodness me.

Yeah, I know - I think the first "Strictly Bulleid" was their biggest ever event, so I really hope it does well for them. "British India Line" is apparently arriving with six extra carriages, so they're clearly anticipating a large turn out!

And honestly, I'm delighted for all the Bulleid fans out there - and possibly slightly jealous that I don't quite get the excitement!

Have a great time - give me a wave on the webcam...

I recommend drawing the curtains and sitting with a cup of very sweet weak tea.😉
