First run of my new(second hand)Bertie

A Roundhouse Bertie has joined the stable. Was purchased about a month ago and picked up at the last steam up. After steam ups, I tend to get a bit burnout on running trains. Then it decided to rain for a whole week straight, and heavy rain as well. So today, after setting up my grade crossing lights, it was time to raise steam. Bertie comes to my second hand with light use by the previous owner. He has added the pressure gauge and crosshead/combination lever options. Only thing I have done was add my name plates with RTV caulking. Not sure if I like these long name plates. Might order different ones. Mike

I am not certain, leaning toward just changing the crosshead and guides out like another member here has done, along with painting the side rods red and blackening the eccentric rod. I would have to make some major changes to the foot plate above the wheels to fit Walschaerts motion to Bertie. I think she will stay slip eccentric and just get detailed up. I am working on coming up with a hinged roof set up for both. Easier to get to the lubricator that way. Mike

Sounds like a good plan to me! :thumbleft: I forgot that your Walschearts concersion was on a Sammie rather than a Bertie, now Joy gear, theres a challenge!

Thanks Daan! She is a good fit to handle the 16mm duties on the line. When I run Sammie, I run the logging cars and more of a USA look. Bertie pulls my LGB fieldbahn cars or the 2 axle Euro passenger coaches. I do want to eventually get a couple of the smaller Brandbright 2 axle coaches for her to pull. Mike
