Some progress to report;

The scene outside Brinsley Lodge has changed a little,

and so has Chapel Street

and "The Alley"

There's the new residence at the end of Station Road,

and a restored 3 compartment coach (Ex MDLR) added to the stocklist.

Meanwhile, the stone wall mould is turning these out quite nicely

The IP Jessie "Codnor Castle" went through works and received an in-cab control panel along with a rewire for the speed control and sound on/off, but sadly no repaint - that's been defered until the shed dries out properly!

Some real improvments there. Everything is looking great.

The stone walls have come out really well!

Only that having postponed the respray until the weather's better and re-assembled after rewiring with the control panel I've fitted it with "cheap" 2400mAh re-chargeables from Lidl (£3 for 4), and given it a succesful test run.

Well, long time no post - I've waited and waited for the weather to improve, but seeing that it hasn't - I grabbed a "window of opportunity" this morning when the drizzle stopped and raised steam in The Countess (The Beyer Peacocks being the longest wheelbase loco's on the line).

The purpose? To test the re-shimmed pointwork on the mainline turnouts.
The original shims attached to the check rails were too small and ineffective, so I blagged a roll of beefier strip and tried again. No sooner had I finished than the weather took its turn for the worse (sorry everyone!

), but I needed to know if they worked so that I could plan ahead for any further solutions if needed.

Anyhow, they've worked!

I still reckon I'll implement a replacement program for wider radius turnouts, but I can now do it gradually and "as & when" instead of it being a mad rush

Oh, and it was really nice to just get out and run something - despite the weather!

I can't believe it - another day with no rain!

Anyhow, not wanting to miss an opportunity, here's one of the new 0.376mm x 4.0mm brass shims;

Also, one of the "Visitor Attractions", the recently added statue in "Robin Square" at Westwood;

And on the plus-side, the wet weather has done wonders for the moss growth!

Hi all
iam am finding that the plastic fogs are geting bad on lgb r3 points. not sure what i can do about that..

That might put the fishplates at risk!

On a serious note, the plastic frogs on the major suppliers turnouts are what have made me decide to have a go at making my own - when I get round to it!

(Anyone know of a cheap supplier of copper-clad sheet??)

You are pardoned

These are LGB R1 turnouts (very tight radius), OK for short wheelbase stock but the tracking through the curve side of the turnout is terrible and the thin plastic "checkrail" is too far from the stock rail.
Adding the shim is the simplest (and cheapest) solution, closing the gap to help tracking and reinforcing the plastic which is known to break if struck too hard by a wheel flange

I managed a 1 day make-over yesterday for one of my "tatty trucks" (I bought it at Llanfair last year, so the paint job is kinda appropriate

)

The lamp irons & safety chains went on just before midnight to beat the deadline!

Another of those little jobs I've been meaning to get round to got done today!

Still looking a little "raw", but Westwood now has livestock pens!

While I had my camera out, I'd heard that there was something interesting to see down at the pool - a nice pair....
