I'm pleased to be able to give a "progress report" on the Caradoc - she's now just awaiting her name and number plates before officially entering service! :D
(Modellers Mecca are now on my "favourites list" for mail order paint! - the Phoenix paint for the dome arrived within 48hrs of ordering ;) )

On shed at Brinsley Lodge and presenting her starboard side....

while her port side is seen here while passing through Westwood.....

It looks different to its first run....on the CVLR 32mm  ;) .
Looks great now you have chucked some bling on it (& the western dome of course). Look forward to seeing it named.

Just after midnight and another of the "current projects" reaches an almost completed state :D

Despite being run ragged by "work related tasks", I've had the Caradoc, a coach from Jack (90733) and a pair of cattle vans from Tom steadily ticking over.
As already shown, the Caradoc is just about done and tonight.....

Image

.... so's one of the vans ;)

You are a git!! I want W&L cattle vans!
Oh & should there not be open bits on the lower sections as well?? My W&L books show these, were they later fittings!

Talking of which, what did you make of this pic I posted in my W&L visit thread....

Image

What's going on with the chassis? Is it an original van with a replaced chassis or was this one of the intended VOR cattle vans??

I was tempted to comment but didn't want to let the cat out of the bag ;)
Your photo is a bit of a puzzle - as far as I know, the original 2 original (Pickering, No.s 7&8) vans had the open planking filled in on the lower sections.
Only 1 of this pair survived 'cos the Ffesty butchered the other
The same with the later (GWR 38088 as per your pic, and 38089) pair, which has obviously been removed at some point during preservation. Probably the lowermost planks suffered rot ans so were replaced with planks from higher on the body?

Anyhow, once again, mine's correct for this "W&LLR"

Yes - pair to Van 59 on the Noggerbahn, IIRC.

Very nice Greg :D Are you not going for your full W&LLR Lettering or was that how they were on the Cattle Vans? They'll look cracking with the rest of your fleet of W&LLR stock =]

Cheers for that, I was wondering why the chassis was like that..

Cheers Tom, the number and lettering is how they were supplied from Pickerings except I'm missing the "&" at the mo' ;)
The centre strap on the door/ramp is too raised to take the rub-down lettering, so I'm gonna have to paint it in freehand - when I'm feeling brave enough

Because the door/ramp on the other model is non-prototypical, I can feel free to "do my own thing" on that one, which will make life a bit easier :D

Well, despite one of the most hectic weeks on record, burning the midnight oil has outshopped another two "in-hand" projects as well as detailing the Caradoc! - both items of rolling stock aquired directly on here from other Forum members (Many thanks Tom & Jack ;) )

First up, one of a pair of cattle vans (as previously mentioned, but here out in the sunlight!)............

Image
Repaint of sides & roof
Ironwork picked out in black
Axleboxes drilled out to accept Accucraft wheelsets
DJB rub-down lettering applied and varnish oversprayed

..........and secondly (and mentioned elsewhere for Jack's benefit) an IP 3 Comp joins the "C" set ;)

Image
Solebars removed for re-gauging
Duckets (ex-MDLR, thanks Brian) fitted
Repaint of sides & ends
Lettering & W&LLR coat of arms applied and varnish oversprayed
Glazing cut & fitted
Replacement of 2 axlebox bearings and re-gauged with spare IP wheelsets
Painting and fitting 4 Model Town passengers
Missing door handles replaced with last 4 in stock and made up "levers" for the Guard compartment
Replacement of (wobbly plastic) roof with one cut from ply
Replacement of missing buffer retaining nut & hook, buffers fitted
Oil lamp tops fitted

That just about clears away the "round tuits" before I go on holiday next week - now, what will this years Holiday Project be?? ;)

Wow Greg!! they look great! and I'm glad the Cattle Wagons are settling in OK  Now, looking at what you have done to this one then that can only mean good things for the second one of the pair :D

A photo of another restoration project -

Image

After negotiations with the management of the MDLR, it has been agreed that the Association Coach would be preserved on the W&LLR.
Naturally it will be re-gauged and receive extensive repairs to the vandal damaged roof, but will continue to carry the traditional MDLR livery as a homage to this popular line.
It's also been agreed that the coach will carry "MDLR" lettering. Though un-prototypical, this will readily identify the vehicle to visitors.

Now, while taking the photo of the MDLR coach from Westwood Station car park, I noticed a change to the skyline -

Image

It looks as though great progress has been made on the restoration of the old Goods Shed,

Image

I went over for a closer look, no-one was about 'cos of the weather!

Image

Still plenty to do around the yard area, but that can all wait until after the holiday! :D

The members of the Trent Industrial Tramway Society have now become actively involved in the preservation scene! :D
For some time now they have bemoaned the loss of the Mamod "Jane" (exported to Japan), especially after the re-opening of "The Works" branch with its limited loading gauge which is currently worked "Diesel Only".

They have therefore raised the funds and aquired a replacement - an ex-Black Country colliery loco as well as parts from an ex-CVLR engine which had found their way into Yorkshire.
Along with brand new parts ( boiler, buffer beams and 45mm wheelsets) and parts still in stores from maintaining the "old" loco, a restoration project is now underway.

Image

(Actually parts from dougrail, 90733, Dream Steam and the bits box ;) )

I see a consist of mostly ex-DougStar Works parts at the moment - wondered where I'd seen SB's v1 steel rods before
