I recently read a book on the Talyllyn. Many mentions were made of the state of the trackwork, one being that when 'Talyllyn' went along it would occasionally lift the front, then when moved along a bit the back would cock up into the air! Another being that when travelling along you could see the railends infront move up into the air. This was all because at this time the staff did more than one job, for example the driver would also act as fireman and gaurd and when not doing this may be part of the PW gang. One driver didn't like using Dolgoch because it wrecked the fragile track! Stories like these are why I have come to like the railway. The things that went on would not have happened on many other lines!

Fantastic stuff to read though, glad it all worked out for them in the end. Can't imagine an operation like that being able to start up in the nanny state of today..
