Ooh,those wheels would be perfect.

I was thinking the same about keeping it unpainted, it looks more natural. I am loving what your doing with it....Ideas are a coming....

Well I painted the barrel green. My rolling stock is all red or maroon so I fancied something green. Originally I went wanted to leave the barrel natural wood, but I made a mistake and tried to stain it to match the ends. The stain did not go on evenly and just made the wagon look dirty. So I painted the wagon itself grey, to match most of my other goods wagons, and painted the barrel green. I left the ends clear so as to show some of its wood construction. I will wet-sand the painted bit when it’s fully dry and then give it a satin clear coat.

I mounted the brake wheel on the side instead of poking up on a stick, to give the wagon a more European look.

I think it looks OK. I still haven’t decided what to write on the side, but I am leaning towards “EEL LIQUOR”

It looks very nice in green! Especially with the wood ends.

Like the green and the ends look like they are really old, maybe just darken them with a slightly darker wash before you give the barrel the clear coat...

When I was a child, the fishmonger in the high street had a big wooden barrow of live eels outside. We were allowed to go and look at them as a treat (??!) when the rest of the shopping was done. Which makes me sound like I'm about 200 years old rather than a sprightly 49...

Anyway, great job on a fine looking wagon!

I have to admit, I wouldn’t mind looking at a barrow of live eels.

Not made any particular headway on the tank truck due to fretting over what I’m going to paint on the side. I’m waffling between TONIC in block letters or “EEL LIQUOR”.

However, here’s a picture of the truck coupled to my Roundhouse “Billy” to give an idea of its size. I think it will go very well with my other goods wagons when it is finished.

Also I just discovered my ‘phone will crop subject matter out of a picture quite cleverly. No need anymore to make sure the background is uncluttered, apparently.

The only drawback to the wagon is, it doesn’t come in 32mm gauge. It does look easy enough to modify although you’d need new wheels. They look to be similar to the ones Brandbright sells although that will add to the cost.

Hi Keith, as far as re-gauging to 32mm, I didn't realize that the drilled wheel set that I linked you earlier are offered with a longer axel.
This is what is described on The Train Depts website:
Truescale Wheels in SM32/16mm Scale
"45mm Gauge axles or long 32mm axles that can be shortened."
So if I'm reading this right, you should be able to re gauge your tank car with little to no modifications. I'd definitely reach out to them to make sure the axel length is correct if you decided to go this way.
Anyway, just a random thought this am. Cheers...
EDIT: I had to contact Jason at The Train Department about some other questions and I asked him about this as well and he said that the axels are indeed the standard 45mm axel length so yes, you can swap them into your model.

Thanks for the advice re: wheelsets. I am running on 45mm at the minute anyway but may decide to switch someday, especially if I move back the the U.K.

Here is the completed wagon: Disappointingly it’s not lettered yet but I just can’t make up my mind what’s in it. I wanted to play with it so I just carried on with building it. Maybe later we will determine what sort of tank it is.

I am pleased with the level of detail and quality of this kit. Two things I didn’t like was the missing frame iron, which I made myself, and there weren’t enough planks to do a complete barrel , so I had to raid my ship building stash.

Otherwise, a great kit. It has many cool features our U.K. kits tend not to. I would definitely build another one.

…AND fits in rather well with my existing IP eng. rolling stock. A success!

Goes very well. Your choice of colours really ties it into your fleet, but with enough difference to be interesting.
