The blacking gives a nice, well used look to the buffer beams. Any plans to weather the rest?

I reckon the cylinders and running gear need weathering next.

I want to add a wood planked cab floor as well but need to work out how to do this while still having access to all the bolts for removing the body.

I wanted to avoid using a complete thin ply sheet in favour of individual planking but this not possible due to the shape of the body and the chassis plate bolts.

However, I had a go this morning with a scrap bit of thin ply sheet to see what it would look like and I quite like it:

I had to do a fair amount of cutting and sanding to get it to fit around the boiler, servos, lubricator and body but at least now it can stay in place and the body can be removed whenever.

Not sure if I should scribe it as due to it's shape you cannot represent planks properly. Do wood planked floors in loco cabs go all the way along or does the floor have to made up with different sized pieces of timber?

It needs weathering regardless although the coal will soon take care of that!

I did this in the end, it will weather once I do a few sessions but I like the look of it newly installed as if to replace the worn floor:

She is a corker of a loco Mr Tom. I wish i had used real wood on my diesel floor. Always a good idea on here to crib.

That looks good Tom, a few runs and the wood should darken nicely with coal dust and look just the ticket.

The more I look at this engine the more I realise that pristine, polished ng steam engines were a bit of a rarity. People seem quite happy to weather ic locos but steamers are normally attacked with much Duraglit and elbow grease.
As far as I can see, most working engines ended up looking decidedly scruffy.

Trying to perform a perfect paint job is not what I call 'fun' or 'relaxing' so the fact that most narrow gauge engines ended up looking 'well used' suits my painting style and the inevitable piece of paint work getting scratched or damaged is not a big deal compared to when this happens to a shiny glossy shelf queen.

This grubby girl is off to a Kent 16mm NGM meet soon so I thought I would sort out any paint chips (easily done on a loco that is meant to look 'used').

The wheels were a bit chipped as well and as I am bored of watching plain disc wheels on locos I decided they needed some colour:

They are slightly weathered so that you can now see the wheels rotating with all the scratch marks and dirt wheels attract.

She's lovely. I love the Lady Anne locomotives. Your coal fired Riverdale must be, for me, the ultimate. Black too. ATM that's my preferred colour.

Black for a coal fired loco in this scale is a must as everything get's so hot and dirty you will always be wanting to touch her up, paintwork wise of course.

Don’t you think that’s the same with Gas fired Tom, boiler’s do get hot with them too don’t they, so black is the "IN” colour……
