Laptop is being rubbish and doesn't want to work with anyrail.... So here is the main sketch that I will be working to

I would have a bigger layout but SWMBO has said I have o build around a practical garden for the kids so trampolines and swings and slides are in the rest of the garden.

Today I got the outside loop marked out as this is the next step.

Sorry for the poor picture, was the best I could do from my kids bedroom :p

This should take me up to about 45m looped for manual live steam locos

Now just need to gather the cash to build it lol

Well. What a day so far! Gotta call from a friend asking to buy some stuff I had lying around in the shed, thus giving me the cash to get the materials to build the extension before the track arrives... (24 yards of sl600 sent out today). At this time I have also done the original plan of lowering the track so that the highest point is level with the patio.

Well, it began to persist in down with wet stuff from the sky so I didn't get the track down today

but I do now have a complete loop ready for track

All the rest of the work is within the loop now. Figured to start with the larger loop and get that down (while she had agreed to it) and add the extras later

It might be quick but isnt the high quality of youra richard. mine is all temp as its a rented property and we don't know when we will be moving... All the supports are just driven into the ground (roughly the same amount as is above ground)... Making points is gunna slow me down abit bit they will be cut into the loop later.

So a little more progress has been made with the line today in that I finally got hold of some more pins in order for me to assemble the first right hand turnout for the line. Construction could have gone better had my 2 year old not decided it would be fun to move all the rails around as I was cutting them but lesson learnt (build when they're in bed)! This now leaves only 5 more turnouts to complete the line construction and then we are onto a bit more detailing.

In other news, anyone got any ideas for how I could enclose the sides of the line? The ground level part is easy but unsure on the rest (it reaches 22" raised at its highest)

My line is at ground level at one end but more than a metre above at the other. In order to cover all of the support legs and the wiring underneath I have used treated, feather edge timber and painted it in green preservative paint.
It just might work for you too!

I should have added that the boards could be used vertically to make it easier to follow your curves.
Also, another alternative might be to use garden trellis and plant a few ivy type creepers alongside. Eventually, when they grow, all of the open space will look filled-in.
