I think you're right. I should have picked a sample from a picture but the computer I had had no net access. The same with the green realsort of a rough estimate.

If it has to be RoundHouse why not go for victorian maroon,my friend has a Jack that colour and it suits it well.

As usual I would go for tan, but black is good too....

There are far too many GWR green locos in the world already

Have you had a look on Lightlines website, lots of photos there to lust over!

Ohhhh don't throw another colour into the bargin. It is nice and the image that inspired me to look at a Katie had it in a nice maroon colour.

I think though for me, I like the unusal look of the tan, the green of my childhood and the black just goes with everything I have!

Actually Neil if I go with the tan I would be looking to have it done at Lightline.

It seems to be a winner (save for someone thinks it looks like sick puppy plop!)

It does..... But in all honesty if I had got my VoR brand new it would have been in tan with a red chassis. If and when the blue currently on it ends up looking tatty and unloved there's every chance she will end up as No9 in the 80's. I've got a Jack in the Victorian maroon too, lovely colour in all honesty, the wife chose it but I do love it. I'm not a big fan of green and there's every chance my hunslet will end up in lined BR black at somepoint ala lyd on Ffes rail. No help what so ever I know. :D

I second the VoR comment, mine is green and I don't really like it! I bought it from stock at PPS and I should have waited and gotten a tan one. They look nice black too though.

Flushed with the success of painting the Caledonia black, the VoR may change colour next year.

I do like the victorian maroon, I don't have a maroon loco currently. My Jack is lined red (it's the actual loco on Lightlines 'old' Jack thread, 4th down) and looks really nice, but the maroon ones on the 'new' thread look even better.

I'm now torn between saying Victorian Maroon or tan!

Yes, to be fair to you Tony, 'other painters may be available' A professional job would be a sight better than my efforts too. :?

I love the job you did on Chris Bird's 'Bertie' by the way, made a super job, really lifted it.

That maroon reminds me of my first ever "real" train set. The Hornby "Midland Belle". It could be quite nice the try and reconstruct that in 16mm...

If I may have a turn...

The two Tans presented are apparently very different. TonyW and the VoR tan seems to be a pleasant, light yellow hue which complements the engine very well.

The Roundhouse colour of tan however, appears to resemble the shade found on the pavement or bowl after one too many Belgian beers followed quickly by a greasy burger....

Roundhouse tan is lovely, given, unlined it looks a little odd, but lined out you'll never know the difference.

this looks lovely http://www.pecorama.info/beer-heights-l ... /claudine/

As a well known Tan advocate....

I should mention that the colour does not reproduce well photographically, (recalling the 'my eyes, my eyes' comment about my Fowler!) in reality it is much darker, and an almost light warm brown rather than orange.

Also, it's not always the same colour, I have a photo somewhere of a visiting Lady Anne and a Darj in tan together with my Fowler, and they're all different colours....off to try to upload it somewhere.

Like so:-

You know, the Midland and Great Northern very nearly had a 2'6" line to operate...
Well, now we know the buffer-stops work! (Heard at 2013 "Longest Day" solstice steamup)

Could you expand on there TommyDodd?

I would be quite interested to hear more about that.

Anyway.

After a deep think, I think I might see how I feel on the day. Though green and both have their advantages. (and in terms of taste their disadvantages).

However...

Putting Katie to one side, I've also been quite taken with a Lady Anne. I know she is already a very popular engine already but she, to me, looks nicely shaped and quite typical of your common or garden steam loco. Yet again I've been wokring on some livery choice with, yes you guessed it, more tan too!

Image

Yes, Tan, I know some/most of you hate it, but I find it quite fetching!

Image

I like this black more than the black on Kaite. This is quite LNER Mixed Traffic which I like and there seems to be alot of GWR/SR/BR colours, I would quite like to do something to represent the home side!

Image

I was very taken by the J69 in GER livery at York.... I think it's quite an unusal combination of colours that work.

Image

I felt this is safe enough, but not my total fav but it is quite nice

But here, I am again!...dear

I'll say both the tan and the dark blue are greatly improved by white rooves... just a thought...
