Greg well spotted these are perfect and having just cleared the shelf of them at my local pound shop Im following your lead and I think most will. A quid for three flickering leds and button cell batteries you cant go wrong..as well as an on off switch, dont need to get into technical stuff here common sense rules ..even the plastic flame can be modified to resemble a lamp shade in a coach etc. Its unfortunated its amber cos on a signal lens red and green it doesnt work but there are clear ones on the market im sure

I'm currently assembling and painting the actual signal, and yes, just like the real thing (remember they use blue glass to produce the "green light"), you can't use the simple red & green plastic for the lenses supplied - so I'm rummaging through the various bits boxes for alternatives.
I might try a paint "wash" over clear

Here's the Tenmille Home Signal assembled (sans ladder) as a dry run before final fettling, wiring, rigging and painting.



Mostly brass with only 3 white metal parts, finial, oil lamp



and counterweight.



A really nice feature is the 99% bolt together construction, the only parts requiring araldite being the finial to top of post and lamp onto bracket (though I've araldited the lamp bracket as well as using the bolt for extra support)

Time to strip it all down now and start painting

The backscene was a bargain I couldn't resist many moons ago whilst on my travels. A model shop in Weston Super Mare was selling them off and my Garden-Railway-Truffle-Hound-Instinct for 'Ooh, that might come in useful for something' kicked in.
They're double-sided printed card and come two to a pack (ie 4 backscenes).
You've seen the reverse of this one before in my shots of "Pentrich Sidings" and recent "Flickering Coachlights" vid. A street scene on the other appeared (briefly) in the last Halloween vid and the countryside gets used for any appropriate photo's destined for eBay adverts

I'm quite chuffed with the result - I've built up "laminates" to get the lense colours, AND I've managed to finish it before setting off for tonights gig (near Peterborough, so it will be a "trial run" for the AGM trip )!
