Actually managed to "catch some rays" today

- by the look of it, one of the local enthusiasts caught more than that!

He'd heard that the Summer Stock was being used for the first time this year due to the great weather!
Another of the locals was definitely enjoying the sunshine on the green at Loscoe!

Mr B and Sir Haydn were temporarily distracted as one of the residents of the girls school chatted to the station master

But which loco would be in charge of the summer rake? Blodwen was being prep'ed on shed.

Once out on the line though, Albert the driver had to go for a lay down after someone played chicken on the level crossing!

The long arm of the law sorted that little crisis!
The Earl was called in to deputise....

and was soon coupled to the front of the train

but there was a delay waiting for a tail lamp

Much to the annoyance of this passenger!

The driver soon got the "off" and headed down The Alley.

I decided to race off to take photo's at Codnor wood, and after the chicken episode earlier I shouldn't have been surprised to see a bunny!
This dog walker was taken aback by the appearance of a Killer Bunney in the grounds of Codnor Castle (Thanks Ian!

)

The Killer Bunny Hunter was informed but looked unperturbed...

I managed to capture The Earl in Codnor Wood,

and approaching Codnor Crossing,

and again at Loscoe before joining the train myself and enjoying the rest of the day

I'll be away working, so I'd just like to say from myself and the rest of the staff and volunteers at the W&LLR

Lovely pics Mr Greg.. Must say there seems a lot of what is normally described as platform overun devices (...Ladies) knocking about near the line there today. You must let me know where you get your figures (all of them) as I only have about 5 people knocking about.

Oh & just a little quiz for you, don't know if you ever heard this one from your rail days. Well I had no worries with platform overun devices for me today, been road learning a diversion route on a voyager. Part of the line includes something that is a first for me. I was told the line reached the top of the grade where you pass under the dead & over the living?! . Any idea's what & where?

That's a fun one! I've heard of tunnelling works disturbing cemeteries (notably on the GCR London extension) so going under the dead means the dead-centre of a town somewhere I guess. But if you're going under the dead you're in a tunnel, so over the living only works if there's another tunnel beneath you. Since you're on the danglebahn (or as my late Uncle- a WCML guard based at Oxley put it in a thick yamyam "A propa relway, wi nun a thaas bluddy parrafin can enjins") that rules out some locations. Educated guess time: bodies above and boaters below at Harecastle tunnel nr Kidsgrove?

Good guess fella but not there. Rather than bungle Gregs thread I will say what it is. It's Arley Tunnel on the Nuneaton to Whitacre line. I'm learning it as a diversion to get Voyagers to/from Central rivers if the stuff hits the fan. Oh & for dragging 390's as there are no wires.
As you say correctly there is a cemetery above the tunnel but below is Daw Mill collierys tunnels to the coal face & as that pit is still worked (& massive) there you have it the living below. Apparently they have a massive rail system below there as well.

What was your uncles surname? I was a shunter at Wolves & Oxley in 1990/91 & now a driver at Wolves.

Actually, it had been found to have run a hot axle box when being brought up from Pentrich sidings. Since the train was only lightly loaded, it was deemed expedient to transfer the passengers to other coaches, split that one from the rake and place it in nearby Brinsley Lodge for atterntion

(Actually on "take one" the leading nearside axle box parted company with the solebar causing a very realistic derailment!

We should have been in Gillingham tonight, but we're both "off it" and Jane is certainly too ill to make the trip.

I was forced to take remedial action and as well as playing trains, cracked on with a couple of projects.
