Prior to opening the new Loscoe extension to traffic, the line was visited today by the the Inspector (Maj. D.Saster RE Ret.) and his assistant (Captain Slog. RE Ret.) who have insisted on either -

the implementation of absolute block working to allow the lines proposed use of a pilot locomotive or
rounaround facilities to release the locomotive for return working.

During the visit, comment was also passed on the poor state of the embankment retaining wall on the approach to Loscoe from Codnor.
The Board of Directors has decided to implement both directives from the inspectors (to allow either method of working depending on traffic demand) and during the civil engineering work, replace the retaining wall, taking the opportunity to also ease the gradient at this point.
The above major works have been scheduled to commence on sat 22nd of this month.

REALITY CHECK; I've tested the new formation and though I can live with the unrealistic single line terminus, it's a real faff to operate without a runaround loop.
At the same time I've aquired some "stone effect" fence plinths from a friendly neighbour so while the track's lifted in this part of the garden I can level the gradient and improve the flowerbed boundry

Well at close of play today (4:30pm) due to failing light and falling temperature

all of the trackwork between Codnor and Loscoe has been lifted and reclaimed, the buildings removed (a bit of damage to the shop, but that's an indoors job

), the old brickwork retaining wall replaced with faux stonework and much of the re-levelling of the trackbed complete

The new track formation for Loscoe has been pegged out so after a bit more levelling the track can go back down and the scenic work commenced.
Shan't get much done tomorrow 'cos it's steam up day at Butterley but if the weather holds during the start of next week I've got a couple of days earmarked to get it finished - will I get it done before the Baguley arrives????

Cheers Matt, and once more the smell of burning meths! The withdrawal symptoms are getting worserer

I've been thinking about the works plates while I've been navvying and I reckon "Berry Hill" plates would be more appropriate (that's where she's had all the work done after all), but if you've got none I'll stick with the Roundhouse makers plates

Hiya Shane

She's fine mechanically but being an external meths burner and therefore having to have a black boiler, it jarred the Motive Power Dept. Managers eye against the green tanks and cab. So,
she's gone to the paintshops at Berry Hill Works for a makeover!
When she comes back her "collar & cuffs" will match

As requested, some photo's from yesterday, the cleared site of what was (and will be) Loscoe with P.Way stores in situ! (Rails end at right)

and a view of the new retaining wall on the "back straight" *rails end at top right)

Here's a teaser for the next area to receive some attention!

The train spotting horse must be a right lazy mule, it could easily jump that wall & be out on the line should it want..

Looking good mate, I must start on some groundwork again now that things are settled down...weather keeps going crap though..

Tell me about it! Digging out the old trackbed was, erm, interesting! The top inch and a half was permafrost!

Thing is, he knows where he's best off, that paddock backs onto the school and some of the girls regularly pet him and give him treats - it's why these two are always sat where they are.....

...mind you, they're in for a shock 'cos the workshops are being moved as part of the re-org!!

Well today, seeing as how it's not freezing or hissing down, I didn't have time for any P.Way work but started on the "Narrows" at Westwood.

Here's the early progress views from Westwood Station.

And looking the other way on the approach.

The photo's show up some interesting leaning angles that will be sorted and the elastic bands around the shop are there while some glue sets after a quick repair job.
A few more buildings to add along with fencing and level crossing gates, then as soon as we're frost-free, the concrete
