The Great GRF Build competition!

It was suggested by a member that there is a build competition for anyone who wants to to enter.
Every railway should have a P.Way department, and they need their own rolling stock. So, this should appeal to most Forum members.....................

Here's the challenge;
Scratchbuild or kitbash a piece of P.Way rolling stock and "blog" the build on this thread (to provide interest, ideas and inspiration to other Forum members)
In actual fact, the idea is that anyone who takes part in the challenge and attends Stoneleigh 2011 can bring their vehicle along and we can blag a spot on one of the layouts and assemble the "Great GRF P.Way Train"

There'll be a slight catch to the voting too, since Forum members will be asked to judge the entries on both "Quality" of the finished model, and "Inspirational Value" ie, would they like to build something similar, or does the model incorporate some inovation that they would adopt.

Open to everyone, except any model already featured on the Forum unless it forms the basis of a "make-over".
All entries final post (hopefully finished models, but "work in progress won't mean disqualification) to the thread by midnight 20th March 2011.
Judging complete by 30th March in preparation for the AGM.

The winning entrant will have the honour of providing the motive power to haul the "Great GRF P.Way Train"
There's the idea, make of it what you will! I have omitted the dual gauge idea as getting re-gaugable wheel sets is actually very expensive!

do we have to blog in its construction or can we just post it when its finished to avoid embarasment if any of us should fail to complete it?

and does it have to be an actual piece of realistic PW equipment or could it be something silly like a PW wagon designed to remove errant neighberhood cats from the line?

Anything so long as its been PWay related, you will be judged on your account of the construction, orriginality, appearance and function.

Any building material that the builder see's fit can be used, so long as it runs on flanged wheels and is Pway...

Good idea Zach, but I reckon some folks might still want to consider re-gauging as an option?

Although not part of the competition, anyone running 45mm might want to come up with a novel idea to allow their entry to form part of the "Great GRF P.Way Train" at Stoneleigh (If we pull it off!), which would probably be on a 32mm layout.
Any method will do ie; if it's a bogie vehicle - swap the bogies, if it's based on an Accucraft vehicle - swap the wheelsets, if it's a scratch build - consider building in a method of swapping the wheelsets (copy the Accy method or make the sole bars adjustable or even swap out the chassis..............), or come up with an innovative idea to make re-gaugeable wheelsets - it'd be great for visiting other lines!!

This is a fantastic idea, I love it. My sleep deprived mind has been working overtime & I think I have come up with something I really need that is certainly P-Way. If I manage to get this idea into fruition remains to be seen. But it goes something like this, RHTT, frozen points, Ice on railhead, old boiler, burner, custom vehicle mount. Hmmmm in the words of Hannibal Smith, I love it when a plan comes together...Now lets see if it will.

Can't see a problem with that! Entering the Forum competition and running as part of the P-Way train are two seperate things entirely, so entering the MOTY would be no probs

I was originally thinking of a crane as well Andy. But theres so much Departmental stock that you could cover.... Cable layer, flail, water tank,rail deployment wagon, tunnel inspection vehicle etc etc.

does it mae it mroe interesting if it was going to be a steam powered crane?!

Those are all good ideas, if you have the need for them.
My situation is, i dont have a railway! so i may need somthing to lift and lay track

Are we allowed to build more than one veichle? My idea doesn't have conventional couplings, due to it's size, and would have to build 'adapter' vehciles, this allowed?

I have a different view of PW what about a vehicle that is useful as a tool/spares carrier for use by full sized humans.

Sorry Jack, but I reckon it's got to be ONE vehicle unless the additional ones are essential ancillary vehicles (like the match truck for a crane jib).
I can't see a problem with building a 1:1 PW wagon Sir C.C. - it's for use on your railway after all but the aesthetics of it might not get judged so well against a "scale" vehicle though?...........

As for me, I've just about made my mind up on what it's gonna be! (Making it a "combo" wagon has helped in the decision process! )

Fair enough, my normal PW truck is a big big coal wagon ideal for holding fishplates screws and track testing. Ok a 16mm PW wagon comming up I just need to think what would I need
