A relaxing evening :)

Post by DolwyddelanLightRail » Thu Apr 08, 2010 9:32 pm

Seeing that it was really nice this evening, i decided to give one of the locos a run. Originally Britomart was rostered to haul a few passenger service and also to try out her further modded exhaust pipe, but the wind picked up, which kept on blowing the fire into the meths reservoiur! and caused a mini fireball in the cab :? so Phoenix was dragged out, and a relaxing little freight workings were taken down the line :D

The first photo showing that spring has FINALLY arrived! :D and it was only afterwards that i noticed that the daffodils look like that they are actually in the wagon!

Very nice evening indeed. I would also be having a steam up if I had a railway, instead I got down to some art coursework. :(

well... it took a long time to convince my parents i wasnt going to dig up the garden to make a railway... Why dont you take over gardening responsibility on a patch for a time then you might be able to convince them?

Also, nice pictures, but the paint seems to be lacking on the smokebox a little?

Super, bet it was lovely! I spent a lovely evening sat in traffic on the M1 (luckily next to West Midlands airport so watched the planes land!)... Hopefully it will be good weather for these next few days! Esp saturday ;)

BTW, are you getting more stock to pull behind Edrig et al.

Well, i do have permission for the railway to be built in summer now, and if i get the grades expected, dad will help me do it! :D

I do admit the smokebox door paint did peel off, it looks a lot better than it did though! :? I'm completely re-painting the smokebox in matt black just after the exams when i take over DT for a month!

I have to say, it was the most relaxing run i've ever had! nice spring evening, the pressure in Phoenix just staying right, and never going above 50psi, so she ran quite slowly and smoothly down the line, if only every steamup was like that!
At the moment new stock is out the window at the mo, (unless i can find anything REALLY cheaply) as i'm trying to save up for the track for summer, and all the cosmetics and bits for Britomarts overhaul! But i am working in school DT for a month practically, with access to their laser cutter.............. :D But i need to get the other wagon same design to the one used yesterday, but the solebars came off in trasit back from Essex to North wales  so i need to get that one back in service!

This morning i had some spare time and i had replaced the wicks on the meths burner, so before i had a trip on the FR, i ran her with good result, and my modified exhaust pipe could be given a try! with good results! :D

When you repaint the smokebox door, why don't you get one of those accucraft reflector plates that fits on the inside. Should stop it happening every time you repaint!

It already has one! at the moment i need to re-fix it, as the handle screws into it but somehow it's lost the thread on the backsheet and it always comes loose, which is a pain!
