Just a thought. Would a loop be out of the question at Mags, to allow running round the train to steam back the other way.

Friday Morning Goods

Well it rained here all yesterday, but today before the humidity got up too much, I steamed the Lumberjack on a goods train. ./myff/1964576/P3110006.JPG And because it was cooler I had visible steam, (not by British standards I know!) if you look very closely. ./myff/1964577/P3110011.JPG Two log emp...

I think this is what one aspect of modelling is about, seeing a shape not for what it is, but what it could be. Well done Michael, I guess a much required item where you come from.

That track-bed looks very nice indeed. The nice fine ballast does it for me.
I find I have two track gangs, one that works FOR the railway. The other "the blackbird gang", have a different view on where the ballast should be.

You could make an operating hatch as I did. Allows me to see the pressure gauge from above.

High praise coming from you Peter, having read of your Railway (you have something I crave, no fences in the background) I've wondered how you guys put up with a railway that goes under snow each year. But then we have that equally destructive and invisible killer of all things of lesser materials a...

I hope Philip doesn't mind Steven, but I think what he is getting at, might be more like the pic. on the right in cross section. As opposed to that on the left, which if I'm reading things correctly is what you are intending. Something of a base extending either side of the track. ./myff/1963432/For...

Interesting point, mate. I think you're right. One of the beauties of the digital camera, you don't have to have your head stuck behind it to look through the viewfinder. I take many shots with the camera on a block of wood (as much to stop it shaking around ha! ha!) and of course you can poke it an...

I think the fact that the line has been down for some 12 years probably helps Andrew. I look at old pics. and see how sparse it all was back then. The 2nd. pic. above was obviously taken in Spring with that much green around. We're under drought conditions here now, and we've lost several plants on ...

I notice you don't appear to have the short bent lead in, on the guard rails of the points (switch). Do you find the wheels track through them OK?

The Victorian Railways certainly used McKenzie Holland gear, not sure if it was exclusive, but I tend to think so. The narrow gauge used the same size signals as our broad gauge. The V.R. actually trialled three position upper quadrant signalling on the narrow gauge before adopting it on the broad g...

Yes all scale. I confess to having a bit of a thing about Nayook. On my way to opening up my workshop every morning, first thing I do is put Chas. Hawkins car by the door to his garage, after opening at least the front door and maybe the side door as well, then Alan Corrigan's bakers cart is put out...

Yes what Rik said about the code, also the paint on the rail, does it stay on with constant running. Nothing looks as good as hand laid track. I've made some for a siding, but to hand spike the main line, phew!

Thanks fella's, and yes Philip they do stay outside. I have occasionly brought the garage, store, and station building in, to dry them out for maintenance, and of course the Mill stays out all the time.

The Leawarra Nayook Railway

The Leawarra Nayook Railway A brief history The L.N.R. represents no particular railway, although it borrows heavily from the Victorian (Australia) Railways narrow gauge system of which Puffing Billy is probably the most well known. After the constraints of modeling the Victorian Railways in 5inch g...

Hi Rik, Just joined the forum, having read your blog on signals. Tried to answer actually, but must have done something wrong and it didn't go through. Reading it reminds me I must build a ladder and rail for my signal. Am impressed with your bounce action. Think I'll stick with mechanical though, y...
